CK Akonnor: Black Stars coach says he is not under pressure to win AFCON

Black Stars Coach Charles Kwablah Akonnor has pointed out that he is not under pressure to win the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

This comes after the draw for the 2021 AFCON saw Ghana in Group C with Cameroon, Gabon and Comoros.

In an interview with TV3, CK Akonnor revealed that he doesn’t feel any pressure going in to win the 5th AFCON title for Ghana.

He added that the team will be in a good shape to competing in the upcoming tournament as they prepare and also play the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

“I think the draw is okay. I didn’t come here [to Cameroon] with expectations of which group I want to be in or not. Nowadays football is evolving and so you cannot expect weaker things.

“We are preparing feverishly for the tournament and the world cup qualifiers and I’m sure we will be ready,” he said.

“I am not under any pressure [to win the tournament]. You guys [the media] give me pressure back home but for me, I don’t care.”

Meanwhile, Black Stars are yet to win the AFCON trophy since 1982.

The Black Stars will play their opening game on January 10, 2022, against Morocco and face Gabon four days after

They will conclude their group stage encounters as they play against Comoros on January 18 in Douala.
