2017 AFCON winner Hugo Broos named new Bafana Bafana head coach

Belgian football manager Hugo Broos has been named as the new head coach for the South Africa male senior national team Bafana Bafana.

The South Africa Football Association announced his appointment today, May 5, 2021.

Hugo takes over from Molefi Ntseki who was sacked after twenty months following his failure to qualify the team for the 2021 African Cup of Nations(AFCON) in Cameroon in 2022.

The 69-year-old return to the African terrain after leading Cameroon to the AFCON victory in 2017.

He has had spell with Club Brugge, Trabzonspor, K.R.C. Genk, R.S.C. Anderlecht and others at club level.

Hugo Broos will be on the touchline for the Bafana Bafana when they face Zimbabwe in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

South Africa is in Group G with Ghana, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe.
