The proliferation of ‘China Kente’ in the Ghanaian market has led to collapse of the Weaving Department at the St. Theresa Vocational Training Centre at Abor in the Volta Region.
Director and Acting Principal for the Centre, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Johnson, SC in an interview with Ghanavi TV mentioned among other things, that the excessive patronage of the Chinese kente is one reason the weaving department is no longer functional.
He said, students have stopped enrolling into the weaving programme because of lack of market for their trade when they complete and start a business.
