U/E: Police arrest Burkinabe, 29, for illegal possession of pistol

Police in the Upper East Region have arrested a Burkinabé for illegal possession and attempting to smuggle a Buruni Mod. 92 pistol into the country.

Police deployment at the Doba-Kandiga snap Checkpoint apprehended Surogu Mumuni, 29,  along the Navrongo-Bolgatanga road.

Surogu was aboard a Mercedes Benz articulated truck with registration number -11HJ2758BF heading to Accra from neighboring Burkina Faso.

The Upper East Regional Police command revealed that officers at the Checkpoint discovered the hidden firearm after vigorous searches of the vehicle.

A press release signed by the Public Affairs Officer, ASP David Fianko-Okyere, noted that the detained individual attempted to bribe officers with an amount of Ghc 5,000 to drop the arrest.

Police officers feigned interest and took the bribe to be used as exhibits, however, they sent Surogu Mumuni to the Regional Command to assist in further investigations.

The statement cautioned drivers, operators of commercial vehicles, and managers of lorry stations to be assure of goods they load onto their vehicles.

The Police called on the general public to report any illicit trade of weapons in a bid to ensuring safety and security in the country.
