Passing the Affirmative Action law will contribute to Ghana’s development-PPP

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) says, passing the Affirmative Action Bill will contribute to Ghana’s development.

According to the opposition party, women are disenfranchised as far as matters relating to leadership and decision-making are concerned.

In a press statement released to celebrate the female gender on International Women’s Day 2021, PPP Communications Director, Mantey highlighted some critical areas deliberated at the Beijing Platform for action.

“Women cannot be celebrated when they are at all times relegated to the back as subordination to men and denying them equal opportunity. Most women suffer abuse in many forms including psychological abuse and physical abuse in our homes, workplaces, on the streets, etc. On this day, let us bring out the critical areas such as was discussed during the Beijing Platform for Action in 1995 that flagged 12 areas including the elimination of poverty among women, training and education of women, quality health care for women, addressing issues of violence against women, women in power and decision making, women economic empowerment, women’s rights,” part of the statement reads.
