He refused to pay my salary since 2009 – Health Minister-designate accused by his former personal driver

Ghana’s Health Minister-designate, Kwaku Agyeman Manu has been accused of owing his former driver salary balances since 2009.

The alleged former personal driver has petitioned the Appointment Committee of Parliament to assist him in retrieving his unpaid salaries from Mr. Agyeman Manu who doubles as the lawmaker for Dormaa Central Constituency.

According to him, the Minister refused to pay an accumulated salary of Seventy-Six Thousand, Eight Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC76,800) over the period of 2009 and 2016.

“Between 2009 and 2016, I was his personal driver. For the 8 years that I worked for him, as his driver, he never paid me even though per our agreement, he was to pay me a monthly salary of Eight Hundred Cedis (GHC800.00),” the petitioner stated in his letter dated February 8, 2021.

This, according to the former personal driver, has forced him into borrowing money from friends in order to survive.

He said, “His failure to pay my salary put me into a serious financial difficulty eventually compelling me to resort to borrowing from friends and loved ones in order to survive.”

“My service finally came to an end in 2016 after I had given him two-year prior notice. The total amount as at the time of my service was terminated stood at seventy-six thousand, eight hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC76,800.00),” he added.

Aside the above amount, the former chauffeur is demanding “additional interest of Fifteen percent which is Eleven Thousand, Five hundred and twenty Ghana Cedis (11,520.00)” from Mr. Agyeman Manu.

This means that, the Health Ministers is required to pay the alleged ex-driver, a total of Eighty-Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty Ghana Cedis (GHC88,320).
