The Minority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has taken a swipe at the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after his State of the Nation address, when the latter claimed that the 8th Parliament is almost a hung one.
The President had expressed hopes that his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would emerge the majority after Thursday’s [7 January 2021] swearing-in.
But Mr. Haruna Iddrisu says the notion is misguided as the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is on the verge of being granted the embattled Techiman South parliamentary seat.
He intimated that the NDC holds the majority representation in parliament and there is nothing that could rob them of that right.
“…but to remind the president that parliament is not almost in the 8th Parliament. The numbers, we are certain, if Techiman South is added, we will have the majority,” he stated.
Mr. Haruna Iddrisu stressed that the President, despite glorifying himself of the gains made over the years, must be reminded that the 2020 general election is clearly evident of a call trumpeted by the people that they needed a change.
“…to remind the house that the Ghanaian people voted for; no to excessive partisanship, no to the divisive politics of the country but for shared opportunities for the good of the Ghanaian people.”
