Don’t make yourself a casualty for electoral violence- WR Minister warns

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, has signaled that any person who foments trouble at any polling center will have himself to blame, as the security agency would not loosen their guard to deal squarely with them.

According to the Minister, who doubles as the Head of the Regional Security Council, the region has prepared adequately for any eventuality and could assure voters and residents in general of optimum security at every polling center and neighborhood during the elections.

“I want to reassure everybody in the Western Region that we will provide enough, fair, forceful security to make sure that the elections are free and fair, and peaceful,” he told the press during a monitoring visit at the Police Canteen Center on Monday, December 1, 2020.

Mr. Okyere Darko Mensah warned that any trouble-maker would not be spared, stressing that the state owes that responsibility to protect its economic assets in the region.

“I am also using this opportunity to warn any trouble-maker to know that if they try they will be the first casualty.

“Western Region is Ghana’s bedrock for economic activity and we will not allow anyone to misbehave here. We are sending that signal straight to everybody to understand that, if there is any disturbance in any polling station caused by anybody, that person who cause it will have that same disturbance caused in his house,” he stated.

He thus entreated the public to put up the best of conduct and allow the election management body to execute its mandate without any disruption.

“So we are telling everybody not to cause trouble in the Western Region. They should allow the EC to do their work…fairly to their admiration of the world and Ghanaian,” he urged.
