The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday, November 15 held a vigil in honour of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings who passed away on Thursday, November 12 after a short illness.
Leading members of the Party, including Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, Party Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia among others were present to pay their respect to the memory of the founder of the NDC.
Speaking at the Vigil, General Secretary of the Party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia called on the rank and file of the Party to commit themselves to the Party’s rescue mission geared towards delivering Ghanaians from what he describes as bad governance by the Akufo-Addo administration.
Mr Asiedu Nketia noted that the current corruption and nepotism which exist under the current administration is worse than what warranted the June 4 revolution which is associated with the late former President.
“My dear comrades, I believe strongly that the way to keep President Rawlings alive is to observe the principles of June 4, to keep on practicing what he cherished most. The principles are good, but they remain impotent without power to implement them. If you’re in opposition you may have the best of ideas but you cannot implement them, you can only recite them. So the best tribute we can pay to our founder is to accomplish the rescue mission. That will position us to implement the principles he lived and died for.”
