Many, particularly those belonging to the Methodist Church of Ghana are in tears today as they mourn the death of a former Presiding Bishop of the fraternity, Rev. Dr. Samuel Asante-Antwi.
Rev Asante Antwi is reported to have died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Saturday, September 12.
He was 83 years.
Prior to his death, Rev Asante Antwi chaired the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral. Though reports indicate he had been unwell for some time, few thought the revered minister would die at such a time.
Rev Asante-Antwi, led the Methodist Church from 1997 to 2003, and also became the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders.
The former Council of State member, under the Kufuor administration, was an avowed Rawlings critic during the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) regime from 1981 to 1992.
